Student Access Computer Resources

MSC Computer Lab

A variety of computing resources are provided in the MSC Computer lab for use by student members of MSC committees and Council areas.

• At least ten Pentium Windows95 and PowerMacintosh computers
• A high performance printer (12 pages/minute)
• Color scanner
• Software documentation & support staff

The lab computers feature a variety of software titles that among others include:

MSC Student Programs Office

Outside the MSC Computer Lab additional computers are installed. These are located in SPO East and West in or near the telephone cubicles. These computers may be used for the following applications:

• Netscape - for browsing the worldwide web.
• Telnet - for accessing tam2000, ACS, vtam and Robin Hood for checking email or running Fund Accounting Query.
• BBEdit - a text editor that may be used for editing HTML documents (the computer can mount the MSC web server). BBEdit has some extensions to facilitate HTML coding.
• FileMaker Pro - a powerful yet easy-to-use database management system.
• CalendarMaker - for preparing calendars. This can be accessed within the software folder on Snow White.

Additionally, there are printers located near these computers that can be used for printing web pages, database reports, etc.

Central Information Servers

MSC Computer Operations maintains several information servers.

• WindowsNT server for secured document storage with daily backup, improved access speed and shared file access with programming advisors
• Web server offers improved student access for managing committee web pages

MSC Computer Operations is a part of the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University.
